Collaborative Law

Collaborative law is a highly distinct procedure that encourages and empowers people to solve their own problems outside the courtroom with professional support and guidance. It isn’t for everyone, but Holly can spell out the pros and cons of collaborative law and help determine whether it’s appropriate. Collaborative law is used for a variety of family law issues from divorce to child custody disputes to prenuptial agreement issues.

The collaborative process is goal oriented and helps the parties creatively resolve issues, often resulting in a win-win solution and improved communication between the parties. Should one or both parties not follow through on their collaborative commitment, each spouse must hire a new litigation attorney. That expense alone is a powerful incentive to make collaborative law work. And, it usually does.

Benefits of collaborative law include:

  • Control of the timing of your case and negotiation sessions
  • More control of the results
  • Less stress
  • Protection of privacy
  • Access to professional resources

Holly is the vice-chair of Collaborative Law Dallas, a network of legal, financial and mental health professionals who help people resolve divorce, child custody and other family law issues outside the courtroom.
